FIBD news..
Hummm...
I work non stop nowadays, i'm sorry if I don't put things everyday, but I try...
Here is a photo of the postcards made from my observation drawings... 40 different cards... On sale...
Yesterday, I went to Paris to pick up 2 paintings I did and shown in June 06 in the 7 Parnassiens galery...
I came back the same day... I spent more time in trains than in Paris... But I do have them, which is more than nice...
Today has been a strange day... some nice things and some uncool stuff...
I had a meeting at 10 a.m. to attach the banner outside... but nobody except me... On the afternoon, with people, we tried to fix things up... Later then...
In the afternoon I went to buy few important element of the scenography of the exhibition... like some white paintings for the walls... but after a try, it seems that the painting is bad quality...
A bad new arrived also today... I don't know yet if the exhibition will be open on Sunday... Gulps...
The guy in charge of the ligthning was supposed to come at 5 p.m., but no news at all...
Some good news now...
I finally have the posters of the exhibition... Tomorrow i should start to spread it in the city... Cooooool....
I received a phone call from the Tourism Office which invites me for a interview on a local radio to talk about my exhibition and my work... Nice...
Tomorrow, I'll have a meeting with the people who organise the Tournesol Prize (Sunflower prize). Every year they give a prize to the "most" ecological comics... I won't get that prize 'cause i'm not in their selection (my comics was just released a month ago...) (and yes, I would have enjoy to get a prize...). So, i'll see and tell you more tomorrow...
Evelyne from the CGT told me that the national newspaper L'Humanité called her to set up an interview or at least an article... Finally some answers from some mail sending i did... Yepp!!!

Ville Usine
Here are some pictures extracted from the comics.
I just wanted to show the Factory of Factory City...
I had some fun trying this factory to look like a possible one.
It was very interesting to recreate the same place in differents angles. Trying to keep the buildings at the good place, make the same architecture etc... Mainly because it's all imagination...
I think that at the time, i made a little map of the factory... but i can't remember where, and i also lost one of my sketchbook.
The first one where I did the whole story board... (i really have to find it for the exhibition...)...
Anyway... the real hard stuff is not to just do the same places with different angles, BUT to do so, and at the same time, changing a bit reality because you want to keep the whole page in white and black balance and keeping the whole dynamic of the pages...
anyway...
Here is THE FACTORY.

exhibition Brut - FIBD 2007
So... I finally got the banner...
Yesterday I brang some paintings to the exhibition place, because this morning, I had a meeting with the man in charge of the lightning... Everything is fine
So I tried to see a bit better how will be the frieze in situ. I only put 6 meters of it... and I think that everything is fine...
I started to be a bit worried about all that. the room is quite big and I was a bit scared that my paintings would not be enougth... I still don't know, but I think I shouldn't worry about this anymore.... I hope that it'll be impressive enougth for the visitors..
The Festival will start in less than 2 weeks now.... If everything planned work.. then it's OK...
I'm still waiting for the posters and the invitation cards.
This is, just FOR YOU, the invitation card in Avant premiere... You'll find the infos you may need to come..

An article in CL
Here is the article written by Richard TALLET for la Charente Libre and published on the 5th January 2007
(I tried to do my best to translate it... as always, please, forgive my bad english..)
“Ville Usine”, a dark comics for an independant and politicaly engaged author
PieR Gajewski, author from Angouleme, has just released Ville Usine, a newspaper look-a-like comics, pamphlet against the multinationals, published by la CGT.
PieR Gajewski wanted to mix the genres. Mixing reality and fiction in order to bring more realism to his new comics. «Ville Usine» has been published at 500 copies. It looks like a local newspaper. But, it’s a comics, totally unconventionnal, about a topic he especially likes, the multinational compagnies. Devoted altermondialist militant, he inflicts his reflection on outsourcing and on industrial profits on the 16th A3 pages of his art piece.
The heading : “Metal World : The factory of all the profits”. Articles are covering the first 2 pages. They describe the factory, its omnipotetence in the city. Then comes the narration in images. Black and white. A dark drawing, whithout any hope, like the story. No balloons. Few sound effects. And, bursting a stormed sky, the big boss such a giant trampling the city. Back to text, with one signed by the CGT, partnair of the project.
It’s that trade union which enabled him to produce this work. It has been seduced by the young Angouleme’s author topic. “A pamphlet against the multinationals’, he insists. In his imaginary town (Ville Usine), the factory is everywhere, from school till the library. So, its shutting brings much more consequences than enemployement.
PieR Gajewski define his work as a “graphical poem. I’m working on mass confrontation”. Hulking blacks on whites. His reference : Art Spiegelman, the Maus author. To make his graphical composition, PieR Gajewski explains that he always think with double pages, for the rythm, the panel disposition. “ It’s an independant work in the espressionist mouvement”. Voluntarily, he didn’t want to locate the city or the country. “The aim is to be able to touch anybody in the world, in France like anywhere else”.
An exhibition for the festival
He already export his talents out of France, notably in a slovenian periodic, Warburger. He arrived in Charente 10 years ago, graduated from the Fine-Art school before being for 2 years resident in the Maison des Auteurs (Authors House). Today, he’s working on a comics album which he keeps secret.
Obviously Ville Usine will be present at the next comics festival of Angoulême. The CGT gives to his disposal its local for an exhibition of his Comics newspaper. “ The exhibition is called BRUT, it’s also sponsored by le conseil général and Choco Creed”., there will also be 5 canvas of 2 meters on 1; and four of them will make a frieze of 8 meters long.
Some are directely extracted of his comics.

The banner
For the exhibition, I will add a banner in front of the building.
The banner is made to catch the eye of people... It’ll be 3 m on 1,20 m.
In avant-premiere, here is the design of the banner...
I still have to work on 1 or 2 things on it... but that’s how it’s gonna be.
Hope that people will see it and go to the exhibition...

Angouleme Festival nominations for prizes
So, let's see what are the nominations of the International Comics Festival of Angouleme this year (http://www.bdangouleme.com/prixJury/index.ideal?action=nommes&annee=2007&id=10)...
I'm gonna give you my own selection...
Of course, my choices will concern authors i know or the ones with whom my work has been published... Of course... like everybody...
"Black Hole" by Charles Burns. If you haven't read it yet, it's the time... Thanks to Sylvia Farago – Sturgeon White Moss - to have made my work published with one of my black and white master
"Frank" by Jim Woodring... He is good... One exhibition will be set up for the Festival at the CNBDI... Don't miss it
"Ice Heaven" by Daniel Clowes... I didn't read this book... But you can buy it... He also did “Gohst World”...
"I killed Adolf Hitler" by Jason... Here again, thanks Sylvia
"La Volupté" by Blutch... Because this guy loves drawing...
And also Peggy Adam with "Luchadoras", good luck to you...
In my selection, I didn't read so much of the books... most of the authors I talked about are americans. I'm following their works for years now 'cause i like them... So the best thing to do is probably to make your own opinions by yourself.
By the way, my selection doesn't concern "new authors"... but i do actually only talk about authors I know... So read everything..
Good luck to all of them...

Great!!!
Yesterday in Angouleme, the new SORTIR has been released. It's a little book, published every month, wich tells what to see and what to do in the department and in town.
I have my exhibition on it!! An advertisement and, everyday of the festival, a little text. I'm very happy because on the opening day, the 25th of January, my exhibition is at the first place... so it's impossible to miss... Yes!!
Today, La Charente Libre, published an article about Ville Usine... (Some mistakes have been made, but not really relevant)... The article is good and that's what is important. I still have to read it again and again, but it's a good one... Now, I have to run to buy it...
All these things make me very happy!!

Painting Steps
BRUT...
This exhibition will show some paintings as you know now...
If you go and check "album Images", I just added a painting which should be shown.
I put different steps of how I did it. It's in bad quality, but at least it exists...
I hope you'll enjoy this little thing...
I still have 20 days to set up this exhibition... Right now my house has turned into an atelier... Paintings of 2 m everywhere...
I'm still working everyday on it...
I still have millions of things to be ready...
Hope you'll enjoy the show.
